A Call to Breed Slaves

CNN reports that Japan’s birth rate has fallen to a record low while deaths are increasing due to an aging population. In January, the country’s Prime Minister issued a call to breed slaves. Admittedly, he didn’t word it quite like that. But if we look below the cliches, that is precisely what he suggested.

The CCN story states that Japan has “a ballooning elderly population, along with a shrinking workforce to fund pensions and health care as demand from the aging population surges.” In his January statement, the Prime Minister said that the country is “on the brink of not being able to maintain social functions. In other words, Japan needs more young workers to provide benefits for older citizens.

An individual who must labor for the benefit of others, regardless of his own choices and desires, is nothing more than a slave. His effort and life are not his to use as he chooses, but as others dictate. A “social safety net” is simply a euphemism to hide the fact that some are forced to labor for the benefit of others.

A declining population is not a legitimate concern in and of itself. However, if a nation depends on younger people to fund the retirement and health care of older people, this does become a problem. That is the situation Japan (and many other nations, including the United States) is facing.

Like all Ponzi schemes, including Social Security, Japan’s “social safety net” requires an ever increasing level of inputs to satisfy the promises made to earlier “contributors/investors.” Such schemes inevitably collapse because the outputs become larger than the inputs, unless you can breed more slaves to increase inputs.

Slavery is a logical consequence of altruism. Altruism is founded on the premise that we have a moral duty to self-sacrificially serve others, i.e., to be slaves.

The solution isn’t programs to encourage procreation, which Japan has been trying for decades. The solution is to get rid of the socialized programs causing the financial strain. The solution is to quit treating younger individuals like slaves.
