In late December, Anthony Fauci said that “anything that could get people more vaccinated would be welcome.” He was responding to a question about requiring domestic air passengers to be fully vaccinated. Fauci went on to say,
A vaccine requirement for a person getting on the plane is just another level of getting people to have a mechanism that would spur them to get vaccinated. Namely, you can’t get on a plane unless you’re vaccinated, which is just another one of the ways of getting requirements, whatever that might be.
Fauci wants us to believe that a government-imposed vaccine mandate is merely a spur—an incentive. But a government mandate is not an incentive; it is a demand. And when government makes demands, one must obey or else.
To Fauci, the most important consideration is getting Americans vaccinated. To Fauci, things such as individual rights and liberty are irrelevant. To Fauci, we must do anything necessary to vaccinate everyone.
If we take Fauci literally, and we should, then breaking into homes and forcibly vaccinating individuals “would be welcome.” After all, Fauci has no problem using the coercive power of government to “spur” people to get vaccinated. Nor does he have a problem prohibiting individuals from making choices about their own lives. Fauci knows what is best for you, and he wants to force you to act as he believes appropriate.
To be clear, I am not anti-vaccine. I am fully vaccinated (with a booster). I am opposed to government-imposed vaccine mandates. I support freedom of choice, including the freedom to choose to abstain from vaccination.
Some may argue that a government vaccine mandate would not remove freedom of choice. Individuals could choose to get vaccinated and be allowed to fly, or they could choose to not get vaccinated. However, this is the same “choice” that an armed robber gives you when he demands, “Your wallet or your life.” Coercion negates choice. Any decision made while being coerced cannot be called a free choice.
COVID is certainly a serious threat to our well-being. But improper government mandates are a much greater threat.
